I did narrative design and development work on an unannounced science fiction video game project from Annapurna Interactive.

Google Wordcraft

I was part of a group of 13 professional writers who spent several months experimenting with Wordcraft, Google’s LaMDA-powered writing software, and consulting with the engineers. In the end, Google published a story I wrote with Wordcraft and used my feedback in a research article. 

"Axis Zero"

Prior to the release of the game, I created original characters, designed puzzles, and wrote and led an interactive Text Adventure on Discord, reminiscent of old school text RPGs and choose-your-own-adventure novels.

"Star Renegades"

I created characters, wrote dialogue, and designed quests for Star Renegades, a tactical rogue-lite RPG developed by Massive Damage and published by Raw Fury. Star Renegades was nominated for a 2021 Canadian Screen Award and a 2021 Canadian Game Award. Was it nominated because of the writing? It wasn’t not nominated because of it! Did it not win because of the writing? We’ll never know.

"Los Angeles 2050"

I was the environmental designer and technical director on Los Angeles 2050, a series of machinima shorts created in a modded version of GTA V that envisions Los Angeles in the year 2050. The project was a collaboration between the University of California Los Angeles and the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Childish Gambino's "Pharos"

I was a creative and communications consultant for Childish Gambino’s 2018 Pharos experience designed by 2n Studios. Staged in an inflatable dome in New Zealand, the show featured a fully interactive real-time system powered by Unreal Engine. The show won a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project in 2019.
